Neuro-Ophthalmology

Neuro-ophthalmology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the visual system, including the eyes and the brain.  Conditions requiring the expertise of a neuro-ophthalmologist include unexplained loss of vision, optic nerve and other cranial nerve problems, brain tumors, strokes, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injuries, and many other complex neurological and medical conditions.

The neuro-ophthalmologic evaluation is one of the most comprehensive examinations in medicine and is performed by a physician with special training in this discipline. Dr. Shaw received fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology under Dr. J. Lawton Smith at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL, and has practiced in Greenville since 1979.
