HIGHLIGHTS OF OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAM

  • 9 month long training program
  • Students rotate through nine services at a minimum of two Jervey offices
  • Clinic hours are normally 8 – 5.
  • Training will require some early meetings and occasional Saturday mornings.
  • There are no fees.  Uniforms, books, and study materials are provided.
  • There is a stipend provided during the fellowship approximately equal to minimum wage.
  • Students are not full time Jervey employees and are not eligible for benefits.
  • Upon completion, graduates will have an obligation to Jervey Eye Group to work as an ophthalmic assistant for one year.

APPLICATION FOR OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAM

  1. Completed application form.
  2. A copy of high school or college diploma or successfully completed equivalent.
  3. Official transcript (s) from the most recent schools attended.
  4. Two original letters of recommendation from previous employers or course instructors.

After review of applications, candidates will be selected to take a standardized test.  This test covers verbal ability, reading comprehension, quantitative ability, knowledge of general science and biology. Invitations for interview by the fellowship committee will be issued after the testing.  The number of fellows will be determined by the number of applicants.

The deadline for the application package is November 28, 2007.  The tentative date for testing is
